Care Team Ministry: Pastor Darren Cowdrey
Our team is dedicated to meeting monthly to share joys and concerns, pray for our church family and others and to prepare and send cards of encouragement and love to those who are experiencing challenges, or are dealing with grief or celebrating momentous occasions. We have also provided rides and visited those who are home-centered on an informal basis. We meet the fourth Thursday of every month at 2:00 p.m. unless there is a scheduling conflict.
“Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this, all people will know that you are My disciples.” John 13:34 Indeed, we are privileged to serve.
Lunch Bunch: Fran Noble
Twice a month at noon on the second and fourth Mondays, members of SLRVUMC meet to enjoy a friendly, informal social gathering which includes lunch. The second Monday is always at Mimi’s and here we decide on where to go the fourth Monday. The group is open to all and everyone is welcome.
Operation Hope – North County: Cindy Taylor
Is a local homeless shelter for women, children, and families that helps them to rebuild their lives in a meaningful way. SLRVUMC provides meals several times a year, volunteer to help out with shelter services and monetary donations.
Prayer Chain: Cindy Taylor
We believe and hold steadfast that prayer changes lives and that God hears each every prayer we send to Him. If you have something on your heart that you want our church to pray for email us at info@slrvumc.org with the prayer request and we will pray for you.
Prayers & Squares: Mary Dowds & Patty Williams
Prayers & Squares is an interfaith outreach organization that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. Unlike many other groups that make quilts for charitable causes, the purpose of Prayers & Squares is not to make and distribute quilts, but to promote prayer through the use of quilts. Our motto is: “It’s not about the quilt; it’s all about the prayers.”
Since Chapter 222 of Prayers and Squares was founded at SLRVUMC over 300 quilts have been donated to those in special need of prayer. Members have come and gone but their purpose, to provide prayer quilts, remains the same. Along with the large quilts, the quilters have made an unknown quantity of mini-quilts and pocket squares for the church, as well as special pocket squares for the blessing bags.
Last year we also took on the challenge of making a quilt for each child who is a resident at Operation Hope. As of the end of 2018, we have been able to provide 133 quilts for those children. For meeting information please call the office at 760.758.9817.
Sunday School: Fran Sanders
To provide Christian teachings, lesson, and enrichment from the Old & Testament for children under 16 to help them grow in faith and their love for God.
UMCOR – Disaster Relief – Steve Moser
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) – Disaster Relief Most disaster-relief work and funding occur through ongoing ministries. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) enters into a disaster at the request of the resident bishop or church partner. The request may be for financial or material resources, technical assistance or volunteers. An Advance number may be assigned to a specific project, so United Methodists may make “second-mile” (after the “first mile” World Service) donations.
