Darren Cowdrey

Darren Cowdrey

Having grown up in South Orange County, I headed up to Northern California with my new wife Brenda to go to seminary and start our life together. I got my Master’s of Divinity at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, and started my professional ministry career in Alamo, California.

My journey took me to churches in Canada and Texas before we returned with our two kids to Southern California. San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church is the fourth congregation I’ve served in the California Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church. I also served for a year as the director of camping and family ministries for the California Nevada Conference.

I believe in church. I have first-hand experience that ‘church done well’ is a blessing to the person as well as to the people that person engages. I’m feeling the Spirit strongly at San Luis Rey UMC, and I’m anxious to see what God will do with us!

In the meantime… you’ll find me in my spare time chasing after my dog and watching sports. I'm also a pretty good film and television guy. The wider culture is always thinking in terms of meaning and context. Sometimes we just have to show how it's theological, too.

Administration and Communication

Miranda Timmons

I’ve been happily married for thirteen years and I feel blessed with two incredible kids who keep life wonderful. Currently, I’m completing my associate’s degree in Communications. When I’m not managing family commitments and coursework, you’ll find me working on DIY projects, or working here at San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church. Recently, I have taken on a new role of administration/ communications coordinator at SLRVUMC, and I am absolutely loving it! Transitioning from being a stay-at-home mom to this new chapter has been invigorating.

I believe in the power of keeping the mind and body active, which is why there is much to do with 30 chickens, two dogs, a cat, a bearded dragon, and even a betta fish. Life is an adventure, and I am grateful for every twist and turn it brings. Whether it’s cheering on my kids, wrangling chickens, or immersing myself in a DIY project, each moment adds its own unique hue to this beautiful tapestry of life.

She has a background in music playing the piano, organ, clarinet and harp. She was granted an Organ Scholarship for the American Guild of Organists back in 2010.

In addition to church music duties, Melody decided to further her career in Nursing and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 2015.

Melody has enjoyed being part of the music ministry. She has a passion to help people and provide music during the Sunday services. She is grateful for the support, care and fellowship of the congregation.

I grew up in Wisconsin and moved out to San Diego in the mid 90’s to pursue bike racing. I eventually landed at San Luis Rey Valley UMC and was immediately welcomed. My activities and relationships have grown over the years and I find this church is a place to keep me centered on what’s important.

Michael Mitchell

My faith and belief in loving God and walking in the footsteps of Jesus is what guides my leadership and interactions at San Luis Rey Valley UMC and the broader world. I am a lifelong United Methodist who was raised in the church and enjoys sharing my faith with others. My role as the SPRC Chairperson, which is the Human Resources of our church, is facilitating communication and support between the congregation's staff (including clergy) and our members including: pastoral support, staff support, effective leadership regarding staffing needs and basic HR support with the support of the SPRC committee. This allows us to be missionally focused in serving the needs of our congregation and the needs of our brothers and sisters in our local community that God calls us to help.

Tami Beverson

My husband Rick and I were high school sweethearts attending rival high schools in Oceanside, having met through our youth bowling league. We stayed in Oceanside, raising our two children, who have both now graduated from college and have successful careers. We first experienced the “radical hospitality” at SLRV UMC back in 2007, when we brought our daughter Jessica to VBS upon the invitation of our neighbors and my mother.

I was quickly asked to serve on the Finance Committee by Pastor Rick Malec and soon after elected as Finance Chair. I was taught well by Judy Klaerig and value her mentorship over the years. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Grand Canyon University and have worked in increasingly elevated accounting roles during my career.

In my spare time, I enjoy crocheting and scrapbooking. I also love to watch “Survivor.” My newest hobby is a passion for wine tasting.
